🚗 Automotive Calculators UK

Automotive calculators for running costs, fuel and car finance — fuel cost and MPG, and PCP/HP finance calculations, built around how UK car ownership actually costs out.

Running a car in the UK involves a lot of numbers that aren't always obvious upfront: fuel economy varies hugely by driving style and journey type, and car finance deals like PCP and HP structure repayments very differently from a simple loan. A PCP agreement typically has lower monthly payments than HP because you're financing the depreciation over the term rather than the full vehicle price, with a final "balloon" payment if you want to keep the car — two deals with the same headline monthly figure can end up costing very different amounts overall.

These calculators break down fuel costs per mile and per journey based on your actual MPG and local fuel price, and lay out car finance repayments so you can compare deals on equal terms rather than just the monthly figure.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between PCP and HP car finance?

With Hire Purchase (HP) you're paying off the full vehicle price in instalments and own the car outright at the end. With PCP, monthly payments are lower because you're only financing the expected depreciation, and you choose at the end whether to pay a final "balloon" payment to own the car, hand it back, or part-exchange.

How accurate is a fuel cost calculator based on official MPG figures?

Official/manufacturer MPG figures are measured under standardised test conditions and real-world fuel economy is often somewhat lower, particularly for shorter journeys or heavy traffic. Using your own observed MPG (miles driven divided by fuel used) gives a more accurate personal estimate.
